GenCon 2013 - Board & Card Games Part 1

It is either a sign of the times within the hobby or I've really not played as close attention to GenCon as I thought I did previously.

The level of Board / Card Games being released this year is huge.  I'm fairly certain that in comparison to the RPG releases this list is disproportionate and as such I'm not going to do this justice.  So to try and give a reasonable coverage I will split this into 2 posts to give a breakdown of all the ones I know of.

These posts will be long so go beyond the jump if you want to read on!

Ares Games

Inkognito - http://www.aresgames.eu/games/euro-games/inkognito
The night is filled with cheerful jubilation, wild rejoicing, singing, and laughter… and well-disguised, costumed characters scurry through narrow alleyways.
Inkognito is a great Classic, and finally it comes back with a new look and with a new and exciting 5-players variant. Inkognito is a deduction game for 3 to 5 players set in Venice, in a romantic age of spies, microfilms, hot-air balloons and fast speedboats.

Sails Of Glory - http://www.aresgames.eu/games/sails-of-glory-line/sails-of-glory-starter-set
Fast playing and easy-to-learn, Sails of Glory uses pre-painted and assembled ship miniatures and an innovative movement mechanic, inspired by the acclaimed system used in our Wings of Glory® game.
This Starter Set is a complete game for 2-4 players, and also the entry point to a game system that allows players to recreate the epic naval battles of the of the “Age of Sail”.
Four ships, two French and two British, are included, each ship complemented by a specific maneuver deck and ship log.  Also included is a full color rulebook, counters, and accessories, to start playing out of the box in mere minutes.

Galaxy Defenders - http://www.galaxy-defenders.com/product.php
Galaxy Defenders is a cooperative tactical board game, inspired by the classical Sci-Fi movies and video games of the '80s and '90s.  In Galaxy Defenders up to five players fight together – each taking control of one or more agents with unique powers – to defend the planet from an alien invasion. The Aliens are controlled by a sophisticated, card-driven artificial intelligence system. The battle for Earth against the aliens develops in a series of missions organized in a story-driven campaign.

Agent Hunter - http://www.alderac.com/agent-hunter/
In Agent Hunter, 2 players act as rival agents attempting to eliminate their opponent’s safe houses, represented by face down cards. However, the closer you get to uncovering your target, the more you risk compromising your own position. Stealth and cunning are your greatest allies, for only agents that remain hidden in the shadows will survive the hunt.

Trains! - http://www.alderac.com/trains/
The railways of today are amazing things and bullet trains, freight trains and more keep entire countries running. From transporting the populace to carrying essential materials, trains play an integral part in a nation’s power and economic development.
You will start with a small set of cards, but by building a more effective deck throughout the game, you will be able to place stations and lay rails over the maps of Osaka or Tokyo. Gain enough points from your railways and you will ultimately manage the most powerful railroads in modern Japan!

Maximum Throwdown - http://www.alderac.com/maximum-throwdown/
Are you ready for the biggest, baddest, most explosive-laden battle of AEG games ever?  Can a Lion Clan samurai defeat a raging Big Ghost?  What if Collector tries to disintegrate them both?  Do those even work on werewolves?  Throw yourself into the ring and find out who will emerge the victor!
Maximum Throwdown pits up to six players against each other in a battle royale of card-throwing action. Try to cover up your opponents’ icons while keeping yours visible. Revealed icons grant awesome special abilities to use in the arena. The player with the most points wins!

Smash Up : The Obligatory Cthulhu Set - http://www.alderac.com/smashup/the-obligatory-cthulhu-set/
Just when you thought Smash Up might escape… the International Gaming Authority reminded us we were honor‑bound to include Cthulhu in one of our products. So we set on to make the Cthulhu‑est product ever which you will soon hold in your hands.
Smash Up: The Obligatory Cthulhu Set features crazy Cthulhu cultists, fishy Innsmouth locals, horrifying Elder Things, and good old Miskatonic University members (the Fightin’ Cephalopods). To be certain we got it right, this set also includes a new card type fittingly known as “Madness”, that each of these groups use to various effects. But remember that Madness brings you power but at a price (joking!).

Fireside Games

Dead Panic - http://www.firesidegames.com/deadpanic.html
Dead Panic is a cooperative strategy board game for 2 to 6 players ages 13 and up.
Players choose a character and make their stand in a remote Cabin, in the center of the board, against waves of the undead that close in from the edges of the board. Ranged weapons let players attack from a distance, but if the Zombies break through the walls, the players will have to fight them hand-to-hand. Items can give the players an advantage, but supplies are limited. If the players can work together and hold out, Survivors will bring the pieces of the radio needed to call for rescue. Once rescue arrives, it’s up to each player to leave the safety of the Cabin and make it out alive!
