GenCon 2013 - RPGs

Every year at Gen Con there's a slew of new RPG products released and announced.

This is by no means a complete listing and as ever these things are subject to change but from the various forums and blogs out there I have identified the following RPGs.  Long post after the jump!

Torchbearer from Burning Wheel - Funded via Kickstarter and is a fantasy RPG.
It’s based on our 2008 game Mouse Guard. It shares the same core system and concepts, but it adds a layer of complexity in the form of resource management, turn structure and conflict.

Little Wizards from Crafty GamesLittle Wizards is a roleplaying game for inventive and inquisitive kids ages 6-10, developed to introduce them to the joy and creativity of stepping into a whole new world. It's quick enough to learn in just a couple minutes, engaging enough for older kids and parents to play with their little ones.

Rocket Age from Cubicle 7 - It's an alternate history pulpy retro-sci-fi space opera planetary romance. It's throttled up rocket packs burning radium on the long blast to the farthest reaches of the Solar System. It's hunting thunder lizards in the upland jungles of Venus.

Victoriana 3rd Edition from Cubicle 7 - The year is 1856 and the world roils in the unseen conflict between Order and Entropy. As technology marches forward the Celestial Engine moves ever faster, and all our fates grow more precarious. Now is the time to act decisively and boldly, to seize control of your destiny and impose your will upon the world.  Your adventures will take you into an alternate history infused with fantasy and esoteric steam technology.

Adventure Maximus! from Eden Studios - Another kid friendly RPG and another Kickstarter product.  The full game isn't expected at GenCon but Eden Studios will be demonstrating the game there.

Fantasy Flight Games have 3 releases currently expected to be at GenCon.  However given their usual inability to his release dates I wouldn't hold your breath! The releases are -
Beyond The Rim for Star Wars Edge Of The Empire RPG - A scenario for Star Wars.
Faith & Coin for Rogue Trader RPG - A supplement for Rogue Trader.
The Emperor's Chosen for Deathwatch RPG - A supplement for Deathwatch.

Numenera from Monte Cook Games - Another Kickstarter RPG this time by Monte Cook. Numenera is a science fantasy roleplaying game set in the far distant future. Humanity lives amid the remnants of eight great civilizations that have risen and fallen on Earth. These are the people of the Ninth World. This new world is filled with remnants of all the former worlds: bits of nanotechnology, the dataweb threaded among still-orbiting satellites,  bio-engineered creatures, and myriad strange and wondrous devices. These remnants have become known as the numenera.

Gaming In The 'Verse from Margaret Weis Productions - MWP have rebooted/relaunched/rebadged their Serenity license and are releasing an exclusive product at GenCon which will act as a preview to the full game. It's available in PDF so if you can't make it to GenCon you can still get it.
Gaming in the ‘Verse: GenCon 2013 Exclusive will include:
* Sample Art and Full-Color Map Previews
* Select Chapter Previews
* “Wedding Planners” a playable Echoes of War adventure written by Margaret Weis
* “Shooting Fish” a playable Echoes of War adventure written by Andrew Peregrine
* “Serenity Crew” a collection of stand-alone characters compatible with the Echoes of War line
* Chinese pronunciation guide ...and more!

Paizo Publishing will be releasing a LOT of Pathfinder RPG products at GenCon.  Too many to mention here unfortunately but safe to say that if you play Pathfinder you best be prepared to see lots of things to tempt you.  Not least of which will be the card game but that's for another post.

Pelgrane Press will have copies of their 13th Age RPG available for collection for people who have pre-ordered it.  It's an RPG created by designers of the last 2 versions of D&D.
Pelgrane will also be selling the new Kickstarter funded RPG from Robin D. Laws - Hillfolk.
In an arid badlands, squeezed between mighty empires, your people hunger. Your neighbors have grain, cattle, gold. You have horses and spears, courage and ambition. Together with those you love and hate, you will remake history—or die. Hillfolk, the new game of Iron Age conflict from acclaimed designer Robin D. Laws, introduces to the roleplaying world his DramaSystem rules engine.

Pinnacle Entertainment Group will be releasing Deadlands: Noir.  Using their hugely popular Savage Worlds rules - Deadlands Noir is a roleplaying game that takes place in the Deadlands universe of the 1930s. The core book explores the featured campaign setting of New Orleans while the Companion covers Shan Fan, Chicago in the Roaring Twenties, Lost Angels in the glitzy Forties, and the City of Gloom in the Fifties. Deadlands Noir focuses on mystery, investigation, action, and horror in the grim and gritty cities of the 1900s.

So that's what looks like being available at GenCon.  Of course there will be more than that available for sale but there's something missing...  Ah yes.  Dungeons & Dragons...  Probably warrants a separate post.
